Summer Vibes: Australia and New Zealand

Throughout most of the US folks are gearing up for the cold weather of winter, but if you head down under summer is just around the corner! I’ve been researching some fantastic destinations over the last few weeks for those who want a little sun with their holidays, and Australia and New Zealand keep coming to the top of the charts for lots of great reasons:

Warmth

Australia and New Zealand are going to be hot from Dec through Feb (their summer months) - perfect if you can’t shake the chills at home. The countries are also consistently rated as very traveler-friendly: the people are generous, welcoming, and excited to show you what makes their home special.

Access

Going “Down Under” is no longer a once-in-a-lifetime experience - it can be a regular vacation spot! Lots of direct flights leave daily from major US cities and many airlines have recently enhanced the seating and dining experiences in Business and Premium Economy classes to make the journey more relaxing.

Food

Many visitors are consistently surprised by the variety of climates and terrains across these two island nations. But the natural beauty of all these regions also supports a vibrant farm-to-table ethos that celebrates their locally produced specialties. New Zealand has an amazing series of “taste tours” that you can experience by biking or driving along their idyllic coastal and inland areas, stopping at a variety of vineyards, breweries, orchards, cafes and other attractions.

Culture

Both nations have rich traditions dating back thousands of years, and yet they also have vibrant modern cultures that have produced leading artists, filmmakers, authors, and designers. Experience the Aboriginal traditions of Australia, meet the Maori people of New Zealand, and see how these islands blend past and present.

Comfort

No matter where you go in Australia and New Zealand you can find the level of comfort you desire. Luxury accommodations, including environmentally-friendly eco-lodges, can pamper you in remote settings perfect for seeing sacred Uluru, remote Kangaroo island, or even the living Great Barrier Reef. For example, Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo island provides every luxury while immersing you in the quiet wilderness of the nature reserve.
